SOLD | Austin Healey 3000 MKIII BLE 39B | Two Owner Car from New - 1964 | £47500 | RHD

Austin Healey 3000 MKIII for sale

First registered on 8th October 1964 BLE 39B is an original right hand drive, two owner car believed to be with low mileage of 70,000 miles from new and owned by the previous owner since 1971. Now finished in the beautiful, very dark Oxford Blue.

This example is a rare BJ8 Phase 1, of which just over 100 original right hand drive examples were produced out of a total figure of 1,390 as opposed to 16,322 cars for the Phase 2. These phase 1 models still benefitted from the desirable ‘De Luxe’ cockpit, increase in power from 131 to 148hp and added refinement of the MKIII, yet featured more attractive bodywork owing to smaller lights in the rear shrouds and single instead of twin sidelights in the front.

Mechanically the car performs very strongly, exhibiting excellent oil pressure and very good performance owing to an engine rebuild to original specification in 2004 with few miles since. The overdrive and gearbox function well with the car shifting cleanly between gears and the overdrive unit engaging smoothly.

The car is cosmetically clean with much of the chrome and bright work believed to be original and well preserved thanks to the low mileage and significant care from the previous owner. The paintwork has just been detailed by us and exhibits a very pleasing deep shine.

Inside the car is very original, clean and quite presentable with the doors, dashboard and rear panels clean all good, the carpets not ripped or stained. The seats are the original optional leather items specified at cost from new over the Ambla Vinyl items and which held up well with no rips, still clean and attractivly patinad. The hood was replaced in 1970 yet the vinyl remains in good condition.

The history file on this car is excellent, including copies of the rare 1964 registration book and record of licences. Invoices of servicing and maintenance works date to 1970 with other paper items dating back to new.
