1027 CBD Austin Healey 3000 MKII - 1962 | £55,000 | Left Hand Drive

Austin Healey 3000

This BN7 is one of the rarest and most sought after Austin Healeys. This car according to the US BN7 register is one of the last manufactured. Only 141 of the 1962 BN7 MKII cars were manufacture and today this may be the latest car remaining. The chassis number of this car is HBN7L18693 close to the last ever 18888, and is fitted with the desirable centre change gear box (only fitted to later cars). For the 3000 MKII the car was fitted with the upgraded 29E engine (2912cc) and with triple SU's carburetors which combined to lift the engine output to 132 bhp @ 4750 rpm. The car was built in March 1962 and exported to Philadelphia. Original specification included wire wheels, heater, miles per hour speedometer, adjustable steering wheel, laminated windscreen and overdrive.

This car is in very good condition having had a body off restoration in the 1990's in Germany, and was painted in the iconic and most popular ice blue and ivory two tone colour scheme. For the most recent years the car has been based in the sunny dry climate of Ibiza. This car is a full specification triple carburetor model and its rarity is enhanced by a plaque signed by the great Donald Healey fitted to the fan shroud. A very valuable and nice original hard top is also included with the car finished in matching Ice Blue

A thorough inspection of this will reveal a very straight car and chassis that drives and handles very well. The detail and finish on the car is demonstrated throughout by small details such as the tool kit and spare fuel tank that is sculpted to fit between the floor and wing.

Connoisseurs of this model will know that the special nature of the BN7 and this model in particular is not just its rarity but also its looks, and driving poise, stability and grace. Some say that this car may have been owned by Grace Kelly and evidence of that provenance is sought.

Healey enthusiast Edward Vanderspar and BN7 owner recently test drove this car and compared it to BN7 cars he has owned and driven Read his enthusiastic review
