SOLD | Austin Healey 3000 MkIII Phase 2 PHJ244E only 16,000 miles from new - 1967 | £75,000 | Right Hand Drive
This is a very rare opportunity to purchase one of the last production models of the Austin Healey, the Mark III phase 2 BJ8 with just 16,000 miles from original. PHJ 244E is a highly original and clean example of the late Healey, finished in it's original colours of Colorado red with embossed Black leather seating with ‘chrome’ piping, a Black Everflex hood and matching hood bag.
This original right hand drive, home market car is in excellent condition throughout and remains highly original to this day. The low mileage and sparing use has meant car pleasingly retains its original interior with items such as the embossed leather seats with chrome piping (unique to the MKII BJ8 cars). Most notably the plastic of the ‘chrome piping’ on the seats which normally yellows with age remains clear – a very rare sight. Additionally, the car correctly displays the inside of the front grille painted silver - a detail often missed in new restorations.
The car drives beautifully with no squeaks or rattles, the chassis feels wonderfully strong and the suspension performs very well with the car riding compliantly and handling well. The engine is very original and of standard specification, yet performs very strongly. Oil pressure is very good both at idle and whilst driving.
The car was owned by renowned Austin Healey collector and enthusiast Arthur Carter and dry stored with occasional outings until bought in November 2004. As a personal friend of Donald Healey and a known collector of the Austin Healey, Mr. Carter’s original placement of an order for a new late Healey would have attracted much attention in the period and we believe much attention to detail was taken in the build at the factory; still evident today as reflected in the cars impressive panel fitment and driving dynamics. Arthur Carter retained the number plate of the car - FPW 1 - as seen in the links below.
We were invited with the Austin Healey Club to a private viewing of the collection, including his 100M and 100S coupe once owned by Donald Healey and you can view our visit report and photos by clicking here.
The collection was subject to a major article in Octane of which a copy is included in the provenance documents of the car.
This car will be supplied checked, serviced with 12 months MOT included in the price.
The car drives very well and is recommended if you seek a high quality car with low miles and rare special provenance.
