Austin Healey 100-6 BN4 1957 £25,750
£29,950 converted to a left hand drive car. WSJ 175 is an Austin Healey 106-6, originally registered TYW 239 on 12th June 1957. The present owner acquired it about twelve years ago since when it has only been driven 10,000 miles. It was one of the last of the Longbridge cars, built shortly before manufacturing transferred to Abingdon. WSJ/TYW was a competitor in the Rawles-sponsored sprints and hillclimbs under the previous owner, with some degree of success. With the present owner, it has climbed Prescott, lapped Thruxton, competed in the last HRCR Late Summer Run in 2000 and won the 2000 Cherish Rally in aid of Helen House Hospice (the prize for which will be included in the purchase). Over the past few years it has been configured to meet similar mechanical specification to PMO 203, one of the last of the works 100-6 cars and possibly the works “mule” for the 100-6/3000 crossover, although WSJ 175 is a BN4 rather than a BN6. In addition to a hard top in Longbridge works colours, the car has front disc brakes, modified suspension (front and rear but without hard rally spec rear 16-leaf springs for ride comfort), Retro Trip rally trip meters, map lights, a roll cage and a custom built sump-guard. It also has front badge bar with Lucas replica lights and a reversing light is also fitted. The engine has been converted to run on unleaded fuel and the original head has been replaced with a 12-port model to improve performance. The engine has been uprated - as was typical in period - 29D and over-bored to reach just over 3000cc as part of a major engine rebuild by Alan Cameron (of Old Dairy Classics and Healey racing fame). The engine has a lightened fly-wheel, upgraded cam (to approx. 3000Mk III spec i.e. fast road), high compression pistons, a balanced crank and a lightweight aluminium sump. The special side-exhaust was custom-made. Carbs are twin 1.5 inch SUs and the fuel tank is a 25 litre foam-filled Rawles model. Naturally the car has driver and passenger four point harnesses. Prior to the present owner purchasing it, it was the subject of an extensive rebuild. The extensive history pack contains many photographs of the car in its previous rebuild and at competitions, together with a large number of bills covering the period from the late ‘eighties rebuild to the present day, including engine rebuild. There is a list of the major modifications made in the period up to 2004, together with the change of registration approval from DVLA. The car will also come with the original soft top, hood and tonneau cover. The car comes fitted with original 1957 side-screens. It also has the original buff log book; this vehicle could qualify to enter the Mille Miglia event.
